ఊరంతట్లోనూ ప్రతిరోజూ క్రమం తప్పకుండా పొలానికి పోయి, పని కొనసాగించినవాడు చేత్ సింగ్ ఒక్కడే. తన నిరాశగానీ, చుట్టూఉన్న జనాల ఎగతాళిగానీ అతనిచేత పనిని ఆపించలేకపోయాయి. అతను యథా ప్రకారం ఉదయాన్నే పనికి వెళ్లి, ఆపకుండా నాలుగుగంటలపాటు పని చేసేవాడు. ఆ తరువాతనే ఉదయపు భోజనం, విశ్రాంతి.ఒకనాడు దారినపోయే దాసప్ప ఒకడు పొలంపని చేస్తున్న చేత్ సింగ్ ని చూసి ఆగాడు.
