ఒక ఊళ్లో ఒక గుడ్డోడు, ఒక చెవిటోడు ఉండేవాళ్లు. వాళ్లకి ఏ పనీ చేతనయ్యేది కాదు పాపం. పనులు చెయ్యలేనందుకుగాను వాళ్లను అందరూ తిడుతూ ఉండేవాళ్లు.

అసలే అడవి; ఆపైన చీకటి! పైపెచ్చు జంతువుల అరుపులు-శబ్దాలు! చెవిటోడికి చీకటి భయమైతే, గుడ్డోడికి శబ్దాల భయం! ఇక వాళ్ళిద్దరూ బిక్కు బిక్కుమంటూ, భయపడుకుంటూ ఆ అడవిలో చెరోవైపు తిరిగి కూర్చున్నారు.
వాళ్లు అలా కూర్చున్న కాసేపటికి, ఎక్కడి నుంచో సన్నగా వెలుగు మొదలైంది! వెలుగుతోబాటు గజ్జెలమోతలు, రాగాలు వినపడసాగాయి! ఇంకొంచెం సేపట్లోనే ఒక దెయ్యం ఆడుతూ, మరొక దెయ్యం పాడుతూ గుడ్డోడు, చెవిటోళ్ల ముందుకు దూకాయి. ఆ చిరుచీకట్లో మిత్రులకు ఇద్దరికీ అవి దెయ్యాలని తెలియలేదు. కానీ, వారికి మాత్రం ఆ ఆటాపాటా బాగా నచ్చాయి.

"ఆహా ఏమి ఆట!" అని చెవిటోడు అన్నాడు. "ఆహా ఏమి పాట!" అని గుడ్డోడన్నాడు. "భలే ఆట - భలే పాట" అంటూ ఇద్దరూ ఆ ఆటపాటలను అభినందించారు. నిజంగా సంతోషపడ్డారు.
దెయ్యాలు రెండింటికీ మిత్రుల పొగడ్తలు మహదానందాన్ని కలిగించాయి. పాడే దెయ్యం గుడ్డోడి ముందుకు పోయి "నా పాట బాగుందా? మీకు అంతగా నచ్చిందా?" అని అడిగింది. గుడ్డోడు సమాధానమిస్తూ, "అవునవును! నాకు బాగా నచ్చింది. కానీ పాపం, ఆయనకు చెవిటి. నీ శ్రావ్యమైన పాటను వినలేడు!" అన్నాడు జాలిగా.
దాంతో దెయ్యం చెవిటోడికి మాటలు వినిపించేలా చేసింది.

అంతలోనే ఆడే దెయ్యం చెవిటోడి ముందుకు పోయి, "నేను నాట్యం బాగా చేస్తున్నానా? నా నాట్యం నచ్చిందా, నీకు? " అని అడిగింది.
"అద్భుతంగా ఉంది! నాకైతే చాలా బాగా నచ్చింది. కానీ పాపం! ఆయనకే- కళ్లు అస్సలు కనపడవు" అన్నాడు చెవిటోడు సమాధానమిస్తూ. "అవునా! అయితే చూడు!!" అని ఆడే దయ్యం గుడ్డోడికి చూపు తెప్పించింది.
అలా వైకల్యాలు పోగొట్టుకున్న మిత్రులిద్దరూ కృతజ్ఞతతో దెయ్యలనూ, వాటి శక్తులనూ, వాటి ఆటపాటల్నీ ఒకటే పొగిడేశారు. వారి పొగడ్తలకు మరింత ఉబ్బిపోయి, దెయ్యాలు రెండూ పట్టరానంత సంతోషంతో, ఇంకా ఉత్సాహంగా ఆడిపాడాయి.
